NOUMEA, NEW CALEDONIA
After only 45 minutes aboard a high-speed ferry, we will arrive at the little paradise of Amedee Lighthouse Island.
Here we can relax on the beautiful white sand beach, or join in the different activities Amedee has to offer. For the extremely fit among us, why not climb the 241 steps of the 49 metre (160 foot) high lighthouse to enjoy marvellous views over the lagoon, or take a gentle stroll around the island. We may swim or snorkel – always a wonderful experience as this is a marine reserve – and take a ride on the glass-bottom boat, which is a great way to learn about marine life, as well as enjoying a 30 minute trip (on the ferry) to the barrier reef to see turtles and rays.
A pre-lunch cocktail will be served and our lunch will be a tropical style buffet served under shady trees overlooking the lagoon accompanied with wine. To complete the meal, our hostesses will perform some typical island dances. After lunch we can try our hand at pareo tying (the pareo is a garment similar to a sarong) and have a lesson on climbing coconut palm trees. We can sip coffee or tea before cruising back to our ship.
TOUR NOTES: This tour includes a visit to the Lighthouse (for those who wish to), as well at the glass-bottom boat trip and barrier reef cruise. Do not forget your swimwear, towel and sun protection. Wear comfortable shoes if you fancy some exploration. Beach chairs and sun umbrellas should be available free of charge on Amedee, although we cannot guarantee availability. There are toilet facilities for our use. The glass-bottom boat holds a maximum of 40 passengers per trip; each trip lasts approximately 30 minutes. Snorkelling equipment can be rented at the boutique on the island at your own expense.
