Welcome to the world famous Nelson‘s Dockyard, once the naval base of the English fleet in the Caribbean. This remarkable area is located within English Harbour, one of the most beautiful natural harbours you may ever see. Made popular by the great Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson who was stationed there during the mid 17th century, it is the only remaining Georgian naval shipyard in operation. Now, refurbished as a colonial village, it is a wonderful mixture of period English architecture & Caribbean style elegance. We can discover our own treasures by exploring the interesting shop and old buildings dotted around the harbour. We can visit the museum to learn of the past and present history. We will be given a guided tour of the area where we will hear of the life and times of the men stationed at the dockyard. After working up an appetite we will make our way over to a local restaurant where we will dine under the warmth of the island sun. Be inspired by a view of calm harbour waters while we enjoy a delicious lunch.Time ticks a bit slower here so there is no rush, just blissful relaxation. We then re-board our coach and absorb more of Antigua’s tropical landscape on our drive back to the port. Please note that walking is at your own discretion once you get to Nelson’s Dockyard. The streets are cobblestone and paved and there are approximately 4 steps to encounter at the restaurant.
