We will transfer from the pier to the domestic airport for our flight to Iguassu, which takes approximately 2 hours 35 minutes. The countries of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil meet where the Iguassu River joins the Paraná River in the north-eastern province of Argentina, called Misiones. It is here where the Iguassu Falls (‘Big Water’ in the local Guarani language) plunge over hard granite into a vast gorge in a series of gigantic waterfalls some 2.7 kilometres (1.7 miles) wide, from a height of 72 metres (235 feet). The thunderous roar of rushing water and the multicoloured mist, which rises above the falls, is natural beauty and grandeur at its best. Upon arrival in Iguassu, we drive to the Brazilian side of the Iguassu National Park and continue on foot to visit the Iguassu Rover Canyon and enjoy views of the various falls. We continue down pathways, which take us over the falling water up to a special area with a fantastic panoramic view of the Devil’s Gorge, and the surrounding falls. We will lunch at the Porto Canoas Restaurant, which is the closest we can get to a meal in the midst of the jungle. It is located just a few metres from the falls, almost facing the Devil’s Gorge. After lunch, we drive to the Argentinean side. We commence a walking tour along the upper and lower catwalks in the lush tropical jungle, and under the spray of the falling waters. Beautiful flowers, ferns, tropical plants, butterflies and exotic birds should add to the exciting experience of this close contact with nature (although, of course, nature makes no promises). Following our visit – with many tales to share with our friends and travelling companions – we are transferred back to the airport, for our return flight to Buenos Aires. At the airport in Buenos Aires we will be assisted through local formalities, and directed to our waiting bus to return to our ship.
Please note that this tour involves a significant amount of walking and is therefore unsuitable for those passengers with limited mobility. The itinerary is subject to alteration and/or cancellation due to flight changes and adverse weather conditions. We appreciate that this is an expensive tour BUT it does give us the opportunity to view one of the world’s most spectacular waterfalls during our stay in port. We are advised to keep our passport, purses, cameras, valuable and any medication that we may require during our journey in a small carry on bag. Drinks are not included with lunch – these are at your own expense. Please be aware that all US passport holders are required to obtain a visa in order to visit the Brazilian side of the falls.
