SCARBOROUGH, TOBAGO
The museum, located in the barrack guardhouse of Fort King George, overlooking the capital of Scarborough, gives a glimpse into the island’s early history.
Travelling through Scarborough en route to Fort King George, our first stop of the day is at the Tobago Museum. The museum, located in the barrack guardhouse of Fort King George, overlooking the capital of Scarborough, gives a glimpse into the island’s early history. Displays include Amerindian artifacts, military relics and documents from Tobago’s colonial history. After our guided tour of the Tobago Museum, and a visit to the fort, we continue along the Windward Coast Road, passing through several villages such as Bacolet, Mount St George, Granby Point, Pembroke and Bell Garden, where we shall visit Richmond Great House. This restored estate house, of the original Richmond Estate sugar plantation, dates back to 1766. It now houses early 20th century furnishings, African textiles and carvings. We proceed through Roxborough, Kings Bay, Delaford and Speyside where we stop for photos at the lookout. En route we have the opportunity to view Little Tobago Island across the water – a tiny, sparsely populated island that is among the most important bird watching sites in the Caribbean. We stop for lunch in a local restaurant.After lunch we continue to the village of Charlotteville and make our way back to the ship. We return to our ship via the same route.Please note that there is walking in the Tobago Museum and Fort King George, involving inclined ground and a few steps; walking around Richmond Great House; a few steps in the restaurant; and walking in Charlotteville. Depending on the time lunch may be taken before going to Charlotteville or after.
