PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD

We will pass by the lighthouse, the striking Parliament building (known as the Red House), as well as the ‘Magnificent Seven’ – a row of imposing colonial houses originally built at the turn of the last century as private residences.

Visit Trinidad’s highlights on this comprehensive, half-day tour. We will pass by the lighthouse, the striking Parliament building (known as the Red House), as well as the ‘Magnificent Seven’ – a row of imposing colonial houses originally built at the turn of the last century as private residences. Continuing around the Queen’s Park Savannah, we will make a brief stop at the tropical Botanical Gardens – a cool, shady enclave of exotic trees and tropical flowers. From here we proceed along a very scenic drive to the most spectacular viewpoint, the Lady Young Lookout. Here we will enjoy a view of the Port of Spain, the Gulf of Paria and the North Western Peninsula – on a clear day we can even see Venezuela, on the South American mainland. We will also be entertained here, with a little serenade of Calypso, sung spontaneously by one of the local bands. From here we will take a short drive via the eastern main road, to the world-renowned Angostura aromatic bitters distillery. Upon our arrival we will watch an approximate 10 minute video, before proceeding to the main areas of the facility, including the Bitters manufacturing area, and the Museum and art gallery (which contains an amazing collection of 5,000 butterflies, of which more than 200 are on display). We will board an electric tramcar and drive through the greater part of the distillery including the storage, blending, coopers areas and bottling line. This distillery is the most modern in the English-speaking Caribbean, its products are distributed worldwide and the Aromatic bitters are surrounded by the myth of its 175 year-old secret formula, which nobody can imitate! Before we depart, we will be invited to enjoy a complimentary farewell drink. Please note that taxis are sometimes used for transportation; our driver will also act as our guide. Not all vehicles are equipped with a PA system. The walking involved in this tour is considered easy; at the Botanical Gardens there will be approximately 4 steps to negotiate. Our journey back to our ship will be via the same route as our outgoing journey. Please note that this tour will be unable to operate if our call is during a weekend or a public holiday.
