This tour is perfect for nature lovers who enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside.Leaving St George’s pier we drive along the Carenage, Grenada’s picturesque harbour, through the city, before stopping briefly at the Old Fort Road for a photo opportunity. From here we continue along St Paul’s Road to St David’s, arriving at Morne Gazo. This is a conical hill rising to 345 metres (1,140 feet) above sea level, covered with a largely undisturbed tropical and semi-deciduous rainforest – the only remaining area of this type of forest in the country. The area stays uncleared as the terrain is largely unsuitable for cultivation, and it is important as a watershed area and a source of medicinal plants and wildlife.After walking for approximately 45 minutes over crushed nutmeg shells, we reach the summit. There is a platform built around a large tree, where we can gain an almost 360-degree panoramic view of the island: to the south Point Salines, across to Grand Etang and the Forest Hills, and down towards La Sagesse – a nature centre where the island’s mangroves grow. Departing from Morne Gazo, we will drive through beautiful terrain before arriving back at the pier in St George’s.This tour involves a large amount of walking (approximately 1 ½ hours in total), some of it over uneven ground, as well as steps; it is therefore unsuitable for passengers with limited mobility. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes. Bottled water is supplied. Insect repellent is advisable.
