Our transport for this tour is a 20-seater open-air truck. The first stop of the day will be at a Dominican farm, where we shall see and sample some of the crops that it produces. From here we head down a trail lined by islander homes, nature embracing us on all sides, to reach Playa El Valle – a virgin white-sand beach lined with palm trees that ranks among the most beautiful on the island. Reluctantly leaving this idyllic setting behind, we continue to La Cascada Lulu – a small cascade hidden amongst the trees and full of small pools, where, time-permitting, we can refresh ourselves in the cool, sparkling water.Driving amongst the picturesque Dominican countryside mountain trail through lush, tropical vegetation, we proceed back to the pier in Samaná via a magnificent viewpoint overlooking Cayo Levantado Island, at an altitude of about 300-400 metres (1,000-1,300 feet). This tour involves approximately 15 minutes of walking at the farm, and at the Cascada, over what is likely to be rough ground. On rainy days the path to the cascade could become very slippery. Passengers choosing this tour should be prepared to get bumped around, therefore it is unsuitable for people with back problems or pregnant ladies, or those with limited mobility; children must be 12 years or over. Come already wearing swimwear, and don’t forget a towel. Because of the nature of the tour, casual clothing should be worn. Sandals or old shoes that you don’t mind getting wet are recommended, as are insect repellent and good sun protection.
