This informative tour will cover one half of the beautiful island of Bermuda. Our tour begins with a sightseeing drive to view Bermuda’s famous pink sand beaches and crystal-clear azure waters stretching impressively along the South Shore. En route to the Royal Naval Dockyard, we will stop at the 35 metre (117 feet) high Gibb’s Hill Lighthouse – the oldest cast-iron lighthouse in the world, built in 1846. With its impressive 360 degree views, we should be sure to bring our camera! (Unfortunately there will not be time for an inside visit, as there are 185 steps to climb!)We then continue on to the West End of the island and over Somerset Bridge, the world’s smallest drawbridge! Our guide will point out some local architecture, flora and possibly fauna along the way.Upon arrival at the Royal Naval Dockyard – with its history dating back to Napoleon – our guide will give us a brief sightseeing tour, pointing out the main attractions before we are given some free time to explore for ourselves. We can visit the Clockhouse Mall with a variety of small shops and restaurants; Clayworks for original pottery pieces; Glassblowing Studio to watch local artisans (if present) at work blowing glass; the Craft Market for original local crafts; or the Maritime Museum to view a large collection of Bermuda’s seafaring history (it also houses the Dolphin Quest attraction). We will then rejoin our coach for a scenic drive back to our ship in Hamilton. There is some walking involved in this tour, and approximately 5 steps at the Gibb’s Hill Lighthouse. Entrance fees at the Royal Naval Dockyard (i.e. for the Maritime Museum) are not included.
