TOUR F - HIDDEN FOREST HIKE
Excursions
- £40 - £50
- Approximately 4 hours
- Limited to 24
An approximate 35 minute coach journey will take us away from the hustle and bustle of modern life to experience the tranquillity of Loterie Farm, a private nature reserve and historical site.
Upon our arrival, our guide will brief us on the uniqueness of this property and hand out our bottled water, before inviting us to climb aboard the open-air safari truck for the ascent to ‘Pic Paradis’, St Maarten’s highest point.
When we arrive at the top, we are sure to feel the climate change to cool, fresh and breezy conditions – just, as we would expect at nearly 1500 feet above sea level! From this vantagepoint, we will be able to admire the breathtaking views of St Maarten as well as the seven neighbouring islands! If the skies are clear we may also be able to take a photo of our ship in the distance below.
Then, with our guide in the lead, we shall begin our downhill trek through the depths of St Maarten’s only rainforest. Our hike will take approximately two hours along ancient trails where we will witness first hand, the remnants of the Caribbean’s most unlikely sugar plantation abandoned in 1848. Throughout our hike, our guide will entertain us with folklore and history, as well as pointing out the array of flora and fauna that we will hopefully see – it’s not uncommon to see green monkeys, iguanas or mongoose!
Our trail then opens up at Chewbacca Rock, 900 feet above sea level, where we will have another opportunity for some stunning photographs of the views below, before we are greeted at the end of our hike with an ice-cold rum or fruit punch.
TOUR NOTES: Please note that the minimum age for participation is six years of age. Hiking shoes or trainers with good grips are required. All participating passengers must be in good health, be used to regular exercise and be in an agile condition for hiking downhill over uneven and rugged terrain – which in some areas can be quite steep. We do not recommended this tour to passengers with pre-existing knee, hip, ankle, heart or respiratory problems. Unfortunately what flora or fauna might be seen cannot be guaranteed.
