Our tour today will take us on a unique sea experience aboard a catamaran to explore Bequia, one of the most delightful, unspoilt, islands of the Grenadines. It is the largest of the Grenadine Islands and measures 7 square miles; an island on which life is completely oriented to the sea.Upon departure from Port Elizabeth, we’ll be able to enjoy Bequia’s waterfront, dotted with boutiques and restaurants. We can gaze at the pristine Princess Margaret beach and the lovely lower bay. Further down the coastline we will see the Caribbean homes set in amazing rock formations and arches as we sail past Moonhole.Moonhole’s unique architectural style is based on the concept of living in harmony with nature and taking full advantage of the Caribbean environment. To achieve these goals, the Flinstonesque houses are built on sites overlooking the sea. Their primary building materials are local stone, exotic woods, cement, whalebone and treasures of dubious value recovered from the sea. Once construction begins, the houses tend to evolve on their own – no plans are drawn. Instead the shape of the finished house is governed by the contours of the land, immovable rocks and trees – thus each house develops a personality of its own. After passing Moonhole, our tour will continue past Petit Nevis where we can view the historic whaling station which is the only one of its kind, still operating in the Caribbean. Our captain will then take us to a snorkel spot of his choice for those of us who would like to explore Bequia’s under-water-world. After some light refreshments we will return to Princess Margaret Beach for swimming and relaxation, before returning to our awaiting ship.Complimentary drinks of rum punch and juice are included on this tour, however please note that the alcoholic beverages will not be served until after our swimming stop. Typical snacks included will be banana bread, cake and fruit. Snorkelling equipment will be available onboard. The Catamaran will be boarded directly from the beach via a ladder (with approximately 12 steps to negotiate) therefore a certain degree of mobility is required. If you wish to swim or snorkel whilst the catamaran is at anchor, you will again need to negotiate approximately 3 steps at the back of the catamaran. There will be toilet facilities onboard.
