GRAN CANARIA, CANARY ISLANDS

Leaving the port behind us we will take a ride to the enchanting Parque Doramas, with typical Canarian flora and dragon trees. We will visit the Pueblo Canario, a model of a traditional Canarian village situated inside the park and designed by the famous artist Nestor de la Torre.

Next we continue on to the oldest quarter of Las Palmas call Vegueta, which is a maze of narrow, cobblestone streets and tiny shaded squares. Here we will make a visit to the colourful market and the Columbus House. We will continue on past the Plaza Santa Ana with its bronze statues in honour of the dogs, which gave the Canary Islands their name (canum in Latin), the song-birds were later named after the islands. Our next stop will be at the Canarian Museum, considered amongst the finest Museums in the Canary Islands. We will be able to observe the dramatic collection of pre-historic antiques, including mummies and skeletons from the Guanche civilisation, pottery, clothing and jewellery. Finally our tour will take us through the exclusive residential area of Tafira. As we ride up to the vast volcanic crater of Bandama, an extinct volcano rising nearly 1900 feet above sea level, we will have to make sure we have our cameras at the ready as we enjoy panoramic views of the island and the first golf course built in spain… (weather permitting). Please be aware that this tour involves approximately 1¼ hours of walking in total, some over uneven and cobblestone streets. A few steps will be encountered at Columbus House.
