We will view from our coach the San Anton Castle, located along the seafront promenade, now housing the Archaeological Museum.We proceed to Betanzos, the Roman town that emerged from old Castros. King Alfonso IX granted it the same law-code as La Coruña and so a new era of prosperity began.

This excursion gives us the opportunity to visit La Coruña and the well known village of Betanzos. Departing from the pier we will start a short panoramic city tour, passing the Torre del Hercules – a Roman lighthouse dating back to the 2nd century. This is the only Roman lighthouse in the world that is still used for its original purpose of guiding ships into the harbour of La Coruña. We will view from our coach the San Anton Castle, located along the seafront promenade, now housing the Archaeological Museum.We proceed to Betanzos, the Roman town that emerged from old Castros. King Alfonso IX granted it the same law-code as La Coruña and so a new era of prosperity began. However, it was the mighty Antrade family and other noblemen who were the protagonists of its medieval history, hence the name of Bezantos de los Caballeros (‘of the Knights’). Nobility and bourgeoisie attracted the Franciscans, whose church is a masterpiece of the Galician art. We will enjoy appetisers before our drive back to La Coruña.There is about 1¼ hours of walking involved in this tour, mostly in Betanzos, which includes uphill walking and cobblestone streets.
