    TOUR C - A TASTE OF BORNHOLM

    We shall start our tour with a drive through the lush countryside to the Lille Gadegård Vineyard – a very idyllic place close to the town of Åkirkeby. The vineyard, founded in 1995, is the largest in Denmark. It started by producing strawberry wine and first harvested grapes in 2002. In fact, Denmark was not officially approved as a wine-producing nation until August 2000. During our visit to the vineyard we will get a tour of the premises, and finish with a wine tasting.

    We then continue across the island to Hallegård - a rural farm covering 80 acres of land. Hallegård is known for its handmade sausages, prepared following old recipes and made fresh without preservatives. We shall have a stroll around the farm, and a taste of the sausages, while learning about their production.

    We then travel to Svaneke, located on the east coast of Bornholm, where we will have two stops. Firstly, at Svaneke Micro brewery, located in an old merchant's house dating back to 1750. Here we will see the beer making process and, naturally, enjoy a taste as well. Next stop in Svaneke will be at the harbour front hotel, Siemsens Gård, where we will enjoy our final taster for the day. The St Clemens blue cheese is an award winning delicacy made in Bornholm and known throughout the world. This local speciality will be served with typical Danish rye crackers and accompanied by Bornholm's aquavit (strong alcoholic drink).

    After our gastronomic experience, we shall return to the pier.

    TOUR NOTES: This tour will involve up to an hour of walking or standing at each stop. Walking is over mainly level terrain but steps will be encountered. The tour may operate in a different order to that shown.
