Skagen Cycling Tour (Tour D)
Excursions
- 60 - 70
- 3.5 hours
- Very limited capacity
- Strenuous
We start at the harbour area where the story of the fishermen’s cottages is told. We will then cycle to the Swedish Seamen’s Church and through the scenic western part of town to the Skagen Museum of Local History. Our next stop is at the former royal summer residence, Klitgaarden, on the eastern coast which is now a resort visited by authors, artists and scientists. A short ride will take us to The Sanded Church - a fourteenth century church built on a drifting sand dune. Today, only the tower of this once magnificent structure can be seen, as the rest has sunk over the years and it is mostly covered by sand.
Continuing through the old parts of the town, we will hear about the architecture of Skagen – the different building styles and the building traditions. We will stop for a visit to the Skagen Art Museum and Brøndums Hotel where the story of the Skagen painters is told.
Before ending our tour back at the pier, we shall head back along the water and view the old timbered lighthouse Vippefyret where we will hear about Skagen Odde - the world’s largest spit.
