    TOUR B - PANORAMIC STOCKHOLM

    Excursions

    • £30 - £40
    • 2.5 hours
    • Easy

This tour covers the city districts of Södermalm, Gamla Stan, Norrmalm, Östermalm, and Djurgården – each having its own special character. We will travel through Gamla Stan – the enchanting medieval Old Town – passing the Royal Palace overlooking Stockholm’s inner harbour where a short photo stop is made. We proceed past the Royal Dramatic Theatre along Strandvägen to the island of Djurgården. We will briefly tour this island, regarded as Stockholm’s outdoor recreation centre, with Gröna Lund Tivoli, Skansen Open Air Museum and extensive parklands beyond.

We continue our tour through the Diplomatic Town to Östermalm – a fashionable neighbourhood of stately apartment buildings – to Hamngatan and Sergel’s Torg, the focal point of modern Stockholm. In the distance we will see the three crowns atop the imposing Stadshuset – City Hall. This magnificent fortress like building is renowned for its architecture, murals and mosaics – the result of a 12 year effort by the combined elite of Swedish construction workers, sculptors, artists and craftsmen – and is famous as the site of the Nobel Prize Banquet.

Proceeding south, we cross the Western Bridge to the residential district of Södermalm, the large island of Stockholm’s south side, containing a number of small, closely integrated neighbourhoods. Our tour ends with a short stop at Fjällgatan, for a splendid panoramic view of the city, before we return to our ship.

TOUR NOTES: This is a panoramic tour, and therefore involves no walking, which makes it particularly suitable for guests with limited mobility. All participants must be able to board the coach unaided. Places of interest seen may vary to those specified, due to traffic conditions, and the tour may operate in a different order to that described.
