We shall depart from the pier in Rønne and drive a short distance to the private estate, The Cornet. Upon arrival we shall visit their private garden, dating back approximately 100 years. The garden is home to numerous beautiful flowers, a small pond with a unique rockery, roses, rhododendrons, herbaceous perennials, ornamental plants and bushes, fruit trees and last but not least, willow – which is widely used for wickerwork. We will also have time to visit the boutique at the gardens, where if we wish we can browse or perhaps purchase the many handicrafts available here.
Our next stop is at the charming village of Gudhjem, which is renowned as one of Bornholm’s most beautiful areas. Due to its steep streets, the gardens found here are terraced. We may be lucky and even see a fig tree. Following a guided tour through the narrow streets we shall have some free time to explore further on our own.
Our last stop is at the White House. The garden here covers approximately 2.6 acres of land and is divided into three levels by rock features. The rocks keep the temperature high and make it possible to grow many rare and, for Denmark, unusual species of plants and trees. We shall be given free time here to explore the gardens on our own – and enjoy the fruit trees in full bloom.
TOUR NOTES: Please note that this tour involves a moderate amount of walking. The walking at Gudhjem will be through steep and narrow streets and steps are encountered. The tour is not suitable for wheelchairs. The tour may operate in a different order to that shown.
