This tour will show us some of the highlights of Murmansk, and includes refreshments. First a photo stop will be made at the Palace of Culture, also known as Kirov’s Palace, site of the city’s founding. We proceed to the Monument to the Defenders of the Kola Land, ‘Alyosha’ – a large statue of a lone soldier on the outskirts of Murmansk, overlooking the city.
Returning to the centre of the city, we will see Lenin Prospekt, the main thoroughfare of Murmansk, the Monument to the Sister Towns, the Monument to the Anti-Hitler Coalition (a human palm holding a globe) and Sport’s Square. Continuing our tour, we shall pause at the Monument to the Victims of Intervention.
A short distance away, we will visit a local café where we will have a cup of tea or coffee and a Russian pancake. We then return to our awaiting ship.
TOUR NOTES: There is a limited amount of walking on this tour. There is around 200 metres (650 feet) of walking at Alyosha. There is a short walk and three steps at the café and there is also a walk of approximately 50 metres (165 feet) to/from the tour bus. Guests may choose to remain on the tour bus at the photo stops if preferred. The order of the itinerary may vary from that described.
