TOUR F - BATHING IN THE BLUE LAGOON

    Excursions

    • 3.5 hours
    • Limited Capacity
    • Medium

Through Reykjavík’s suburbs we travel past the rugged lava fields of the Reykjanes peninsula, towards the Blue Lagoon. Here we will stop for approximately two hours to indulge in the waters of the lagoon.

The Blue Lagoon owes its existence to a nearby geothermal power plant. The mineral rich water of the lagoon – reputed for its healing properties – is a warm 37-39°C (99-102°F). The blueness of the water, the steam and the four metre (13 feet) high lava wall surrounding the lagoon create a unique atmosphere. This natural and very popular health spa is now a major attraction in the region, and one of the most visited places on the island. The facilities here include a tax-free shop, café and good changing room facilities. We will spend approximately two hours here.

From the Blue Lagoon we head back to Hafnarfjörður and continue on a slightly different route, along the coastline, back to Reykjavík.

TOUR NOTES: Please note that the Blue Lagoon is not a swimming pool for regular swimming – rather a unique, relaxing bathing experience. Changing rooms and showers are communal - there are separate facilities for men and women. Lockers are provided. For reasons of hygiene, participants must take a shower without swimwear before entering the lagoon. If you forget your own towel, one can be hired for approximately £4 (payable in Icelandic Krona or Euros). There is a walk of approximately 200 metres (655 feet) each way, to and from the coach park, over even and paved but slightly sloping ground. For information, there are refreshment facilities and a shop. The coach journey to the Blue Lagoon will take approximately 45 minutes each way. Please note that the coach used may not have air conditioning.
