If you think that Iceland looks good from the ground – wait until you have seen it from the air. This never-to-be-forgotten trip shows the sharply contrasting faces of Iceland’s natural features – glaciers and volcanoes.
This magnificent tour will take us over the Tindfjallajokull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers. Between the ice and snowfields we see Hekla, the most famous of Iceland’s volcanoes which last erupted in 2000. Other places of interest viewed will include Thingvellir – site of the world’s oldest parliament – the Gullfoss golden waterfall and Geysir – one of the world’s outstanding geothermal areas and the origin of the English word “geyser”.
The valley of Thórsmörk is considered one of the pearls of Icelandic nature. In the shelter of three glaciers, a most glorious oasis has been formed. This magnificent valley is only accessible by jeep, due to numerous glacial rivers. We will also fly over the area of Landmannalaugar – a region that lies in the Highlands of Iceland and is said to be one of the most beautiful in the country because of its various volcanoes and the special colouring of the landscape. Pink and blue ashes as well as black lava are found at the volcano Blahnjukur and red, brown and yellow are seen at the sides of another volcano next to it.
