TOUR E - SECRET CORNERS
Excursions
- 45-55
- 4 hours
This will give us a good chance to see how Venetian life continues through the centuries.
The second part of our tour along the Giudecca Canal will allow us to see a residential area, where old buildings have been adapted into modern, comfortable houses, and also the famous Hotel Cipriani. Just around the corner, we will have a view of St Mark’s Square, Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs, before we reach the heart of the city.
The Grand Canal will welcome us with its sumptuous mansions, palaces and market. We will then disembark our water taxi and begin our walking tour, where we can explore old districts of the city. During our walking tour we will view the outside of Palazzo Fortuny, a Gothic palace in the San Marco area of Venice. The building was once owned by Spanish painter Mariano Fortuny and today houses exhibitions.
Arriving in St Mark’s Square, we can then enjoy some free time to explore independently or browse the shops, prior to walking to our motor launch for the return journey to the pier.
TOUR NOTES: This tour involves approximately one hour and 15 minutes of walking, some of which will be over uneven terrain. There are also many steps to negotiate on this tour, as walking will cover some of Venice’s many canal bridges, therefore it is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or wheelchair users. No inside visits will be made during our walking tour. After disembarking our ship, there may be quite a walk to reach our water taxis and on the return from our motor launches; there are also steps to negotiate to embark and disembark the launches. Walking during the period of free time is at the discretion of the individual. Please note that the use of ‘whispers’ (headsets) is compulsory onboard the water taxis. Each water taxi holds ten passengers.
