TOUR E - RIVER CRUISE & CITY SIGHTSEEING
Excursions
- £55 - £65
- 4 hours
- Limited capacity
Our voyage of discovery begins with a transfer to the River Liffey, upon which Dublin was built. Here we board our boat for a gentle and relaxing cruise along the river, whilst listening to the story of Dublin; from the first arrival of the Vikings over 1,000 years ago, to the rapid development of the city during the 18th and 19th centuries. It subsequently declined during the 20th century, and today the redevelopment of Dublin’s Docklands will amaze us.
THIS TOUR IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR CALLS INTO DUBLIN - NOT FOR PASSENGERS JOINING/LEAVING THE SHIP IN DUBLIN
During our journey we will hear the story behind the iconic Ha’penny Bridge, as well as Gandon’s masterpiece, the majestic Custom House. We will follow the story of Dublin’s Royal and Grand Canals and see where Oliver Cromwell landed in 1649. We shall also learn how much of present day Dublin now sits on reclaimed land, including Trinity College and the Spire in O’Connell Street.
Following our river cruise, we re-board our tour coach for a panoramic drive through the city. Our journey will take us past the Georgian Squares of Merrion and Fitzwilliam, where we can stop for a photo opportunity of the renowned Dublin doorways. We shall also make a photo stop at St Patrick’s Cathedral. Founded in 1190, St Patrick’s is perhaps best known for its association with Jonathan Swift, who was Dean here from 1713 to 1745.
Continuing, we drive past the renowned Guinness Brewery, home of the well-known ‘black stuff’, which Dublin is famous for, before passing Phoenix Park, Europe’s largest enclosed public park. Here we will see the homes of Ireland’s President and American Ambassador.
TOUR NOTES: There is a short walk from our coach to board the boat and vice versa, over uneven and cobbled ground and there are approximately 10 steps to negotiate inside the boat. The boat will be covered; please note that there will not be any toilet facilities onboard. Phoenix Park can be closed to the public due to events taking place, in which case we would not be able to drive through. We will only have one toilet stop in the Park, or elsewhere in the city if we are not able to enter the Park. The boat journey will last approximately 30 minutes. The order of sights on this tour may vary, and we may have the city tour before the boat journey.
