We’re sure that embarking on your first Fred. Olsen cruise will an exciting and enjoyable experience, however, if you feel apprehensive or unsure about trying something new we’ll do all we can to put your mind at ease and help you settle in as quickly as possible.
Our ‘New to Cruising’ programme has been created to provide you with all the information you might need during your first cruise on board our ships. The programme includes get-togethers with other first-time cruisers and meetings with our ‘New to Cruising’ representatives. There’s no need to worry about anything when you cruise with Fred. Olsen.
Guided ship tours: As you’ll be new to Fred. Olsen and our ships, we recommend you take the opportunity to join a guided ship tour to familiarise yourself with your new ‘home from home at sea’. Our friendly staff will help you find the restaurants, bars, lounges, outside deck spaces and much more; and are happy to answer any questions you have along the way.
‘New to cruising’ get together: The ‘New to Cruising’ get-together is a great way of meeting fellow first-time cruisers who may have the same questions and queries as you, or people looking for new friends and companions to enjoy their holiday with. We’ll also be there to offer some tips on how to make the most of your cruise.
‘New to cruising’ representative: Our ‘New to Cruising’ representatives will be on hand every day throughout your holiday, whether you’re enjoying a week sailing around the UK or venturing further afield on a longer voyage. Available at selected times and places, they will be happy to answer your questions and offer any advice you require.

Unfortunately our ‘New to Cruising’ programme isn’t available on mini-cruises, however, our staff will, of course, be happy to help in any way they can on these sailings.

Cruising with Fred. Olsen is about making the most of some well-earned time away from it all, and on board your smaller, friendlier cruise ship you can do as much or as little as you like to ensure your experience is as relaxing and rewarding as you want it to be.
With a variety of experiences, events, classes and much more to enjoy, each day on board can be as varied as you wish. On all four Fred. Olsen ships you could start your day with a delicious breakfast, followed by an energising early morning workout in the fully equipped fitness centre or refreshing walk on the open decks; try your hand at bridge, bingo, shuffle board and deck quoits after lunch, perfect your golf swing, or perhaps indulge with a traditional afternoon tea; then in the evenings, enjoy sumptuous, five-course á la carte dining or a tasty buffet before catching a show and dancing long into the night – the choice is always yours.

Dining to suit every taste...
Enjoy a taste of award-winning food, made the way you like it.
One of the highlights of a Fred. Olsen cruise is the food. Expert chefs produce great dishes night after night. Every day menus are something special, with appetisers like herb-marinated salmon or crab cocktail and indulgent main courses like sirloin steak with a choice of sauces, pan seared red snapper with scallops, slow roast duckling confit or balsamic braised lamb shank.
Of course there are vegetarian dishes and healthy choices too, with an emphasis on fish dishes inspired by our Norwegian heritage; so even if you’re watching your diet, you’re in for a treat!
The desserts are every bit as tasty (think white chocolate parfait or mango apple tart) and the sugar free option means no-one has to miss out.Read more

Gratuities are not included in the cost of your holiday. However, we pride ourselves on the service offered to our guests, and are confident that you’ll wish to reward staff on board for this service, although tipping is entirely at your discretion.
As a general rule, gratuities are charged at £4.00 per person, per night for guests aged 12 and over. This is split between your stewardess and restaurant waiter, and will be automatically added to your on board account. Please remember that our gratuities, while very much appreciated, are voluntary and therefore can be adjusted or removed completely at Guest Services on board the ship if you wish.
For your convenience, you are also able to pay gratuities before your cruise. At the time of booking you will be asked if you’d like to pay prior to travel. If so, you’ll pay 15% of the charge as part of your deposit, and pay the rest when the final balance of your cruise is collected. Just call our friendly Reservations Team on 0800 0355 105, and they'll sort it out for you.
If you do not pre-pay at the time of booking, but wish to pay your gratuities before you join the ship, simply call our Reservations Team at least 5 days before departure and they'll be happy to help.
With an extensive range of drinks available on our cruise ships, and all at reasonable prices, you can afford to treat yourself to your favourite tipple on a Fred. Olsen Cruise.
Our single guests need never be alone as we have the reputation of operating the friendliest cruise ships afloat and were recently voted 'Best for Solo Cruisers' by Cruise Critic. The size of our ships makes it perfect for making new friends and we’ll have our smiling staff waiting to greet you from the moment you arrive on board. However, we want our solo cruisers to feel they can have the freedom to do as much or as little as they like – aboard or ashore.
Special activities will be arranged throughout your cruise holiday to give you the opportunity to meet with fellow single travellers if you wish, plus we’ll have dance hosts on hand to make sure our single guests never go too long without a dance partner in the evenings.
We understand that finding a cruise without huge single supplements is often difficult, so we have a wide variety of cruises with no single supplements available to choose from. With a great selection of both inside and outside rooms, designed solely for solo cruisers, we’re confident you’ll find the right cruise for you.
If you’re also new to cruising, we’ll help put your mind at ease, and get you settled in as quickly as possible. With get-togethers with like-minded guests, and our dedicated ‘New to cruising’ representative, you’ll never feel alone – we can even sit you with other solo cruisers at dinner.
Fred. Olsen is the perfect choice for single travellers, giving guests the opportunity to mix with new-found friends, discover new-found destinations - or re-discover old ones, all in the safety of your cruise ship.
Don’t just take our word for it...
“What was I thinking, taking a cruise alone? I felt very apprehensive as I reached Braemar in Southampton Docks, but Fred Olsen were superb at arranging ‘singles’ on tables together, organising dance classes and coffee socials, but I didn't have time to attend them as there were so many other opportunities, from listening to a classical pianist, police dog-handler, an officer from Royal Yacht Britannia, watch magicians, shows, comedy acts and so on.
A ‘first time cruiser’ meeting was most helpful with advice from mobile 'phones (leave on aeroplane mode) to excursions. The cabins were comfortable, the destinations fascinating and enjoyed in temperatures in the 60's... and I made many new friends.” Joy Mendelsohn
